Update: The series premiere of CBS’ “Battle Creek” was very unsuccessful.
Sunday’s episode drew a paltry 1.0 adults 18-49 rating with 7.81 million viewers.
To its credit, “Battle Creek” did not receive much adults 18-49 help from its Emmy-winning “The Good Wife” lead-in. CBS’ acclaimed series delivered a 1.1 adults 18-49 rating with 8.92 million.
The 7.81 million viewership average for “Battle Creek” is more respectable, but it nonetheless ranks as the lowest among CBS’ four Sunday night offerings.
Earlier in the night, CBS offered “60 Minutes”(1.6, 13.31 million) and “Madam Secretary” (1.3, 8.92 million).

When it comes to the overnights, CBS’ “Battle Creek” ranks as the best-performing of Sunday’s three new shows (ahead of ABC’s “Secrets and Lies” and FOX’s “The Last Man on Earth”).
But insofar as it did not deliver a monstrous overnight rating — and is not expected to notably skew significantly in the direction of the adults 18-49 demographic — its performance is not one to celebrate.
Sunday’s episode delivered a 4.8 overnight household rating. Down by 21% from its “The Good Wife” lead-in (6.1), which was down by 20% from its “Madam Secretary” lead-in (7.6, down from the 9.3 for 7PM entry “60 Minutes”), “Battle Creek” decisively ranked as CBS’ lowest-rated program as far as the household numbers go.
Considering the considerably larger “Secretary” and “Good Wife” overnight numbers do not typically translate into strong adults 18-49 ratings, there is no reason to expect that number to present “Battle Creek” in a markedly more favorable light.
