Meghan Trainor performs an acoustic rendition of “Lips are Movin” on Thursday’s edition of “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” and she does so from a position of celebration rather than desperation.
Trainor’s new album “Title,” which arrived in stores Tuesday, is enjoying an explosive opening sales week. A lock to claim #1 on the Billboard Top Album Sales chart, “Title” is on pace for an inaugural week sales total in the realm of 185-195,000.
Trainor thus visits “The Tonight Show” without a worrisome level of stress or urgency. She will surely look to drive additional interest in her music–and history suggests she will succeed–but she can also take time to enjoy her appearance on the iconic talk show. She is performing to showcase a red-hot album rather than to salvage a struggling one.
While Thursday’s performance represents Trainor’s first on the formal “Tonight Show” stage, it is not her first overall appearance on the show. Last September, Trainor joined host Jimmy Fallon and in-house band The Roots for a “classroom instruments” rendition of her hit “All About That Bass.”
Kevin Hart and Jay Baruchel also appear on Thursday’s episode.
