Taylor Swift’s blockbuster “Blank Space” is about to add a second radio format to its kingdom.
While its #1 position will not be certified until Mediabase issues its next official airplay chart, it can already celebrate being the most-played song at hot adult contemporary.
The “1989” single, which rose to the top of the pop airplay chart last week (where it remains), received 5,973 spins at the Hot AC format during the period between December 13 and 19. That count gave it the edge over Maroon 5’s multi-week #1 “Animals,” which received only 5,875 during that window.
With 41.08 million impressions, “Blank Space” also commanded the format’s audience. “Animals” commanded 38.71 million impressions over the trailing seven days.
Other top five songs on the rolling Mediabase Hot AC airplay chart include Tove Lo’s “Habits (Stay High)” (#3, 5,438), Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One” (#4, 5,126) and Hozier’s “Take Me to Church” (#5, 5,023).
A true multi-format hit, “Blank Space” is also #16 at adult contemporary radio and #20 at rhythmic.
