Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” Hits #1 Following CMA Awards (Updated)

Update: “Ready to Run,” the latest instant gratification release from One Direction’s “FOUR,” launched at #1 on iTunes mid-day Thursday. That knocked Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” from its perch atop the store’s all-genre single sales chart.

Benefiting from Trainor’s CMA Awards duet with Miranda Lambert, the song nonetheless maintains its advantage over Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” (#3) and “Shake it Off” (#4). It claims the chart’s #2 spot.

The majority of the CMA-related tracks remain in positions similar to those they occupied at 3AM ET Thursday morning. One of the only notable risers is Lambert’s “Smokin’ and Drinkin’ (featuring Little Big Town),” which was up to #39 on the chart as of 4PM ET.

Whether via her Hot 100 chart-topper “Shake it Off” or follow-up single “Blank Space,” Taylor Swift has spent the past several weeks in a state of dominance on the iTunes all-genre sales chart.

That changed Wednesday night in the wake of an awards show that, prior to this year, had become a showcase for Swift’s stardom.

The annual CMA Awards, that show, provided Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” with the exposure it needed to reclaim #1 on the sales chart. Trainor, who had made waves as a Nashville songwriter before exploding onto the pop scene, performed her breakthrough hit alongside country superstar Miranda Lambert.

An eight-week number one on the Billboard Hot 100, “Bass” spends this week in the runner-up position.
