Maroon 5’s “Animals” is the Greatest Gainer at Pop, Hot AC

While it was never a sales or buzz powerhouse, Maroon 5’s lead “V” single “Maps” was very successful at radio. A #1 hit at hot adult contemporary and a Top 5 pop record, it set the bar high for follow-up “Animals.”

Thus far, the song is embracing the challenge.

According to Mediabase, the latest Maroon 5 single claims the greatest gainer label at both pop and Hot AC radio this week.

At pop, “Animals” enjoyed a week-over-week spin gain of 1,596. That increase fueled a total of 5,844 spins for the October 5-11 tracking period and positions the song at #15 on the airplay chart.

Other big airplay gainers at pop include Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s #4 “Bang Bang” (+1,465 spins), Calvin Harris’ #11 “Blame (featuring John Newman)” (+1,421 spins), David Guetta’s #35 “Dangerous (featuring Sam Martin)” (+1,413) and Sam Smith’s #24 “I’m Not the Only One” (+1,341 spins).

“Animals” meanwhile enjoys a weekly lift of 778 spins at Hot AC. The recipient of 2,334 total spins during the weekly tracking period, it is now #17 on the airplay chart.

Other big Hot AC gainers include Sam Smith’s #19 “I’m Not the Only One” (+625), Tove Lo’s #16 “Habits (Stay High)” (+575), Jessie J + Ariana Grande + Nicki Minaj’s #13 “Bang Bang” (+498) and Echosmith’s #6 “Cool Kids” (+391).
