Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” Indeed Stays #1 at Pop, Goes Top 20 at Rhythmic

When a song leads all rivals several thousand spins with only a few days left in the tracking period, it is an obvious lock to retain that #1 position.

Indeed, Headline Planet’s projection that Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” would repeat as pop’s #1 song was hardly a work of sorcery.

It was, however, an exercise in accuracy. The song, on the strength of 16,544 spins between August 31 and September 6, secures a second week atop Mediabase’s pop radio airplay chart.

The singer-songwriter’s first solo number one commanded 103.67 million audience impressions during the tracking period. Both numbers were up from their corresponding marks on last week’s official airplay chart.

Other top ten pop songs this week included Maroon 5’s “Maps” (#2), Sam Smith’s “Stay with Me” (#3), Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” (#4), Ariana Grande’s “Break Free (featuring Zedd)” (#5), Taylor Swift’s “Shake it Off” (#6), Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be (featuring Jess Glynne)” (#7), MAGIC!’s “Rude” (#8), Iggy Azalea’s “Black Widow (featuring Rita Ora)” (#9) and Nico and Vinz’ “Am I Wrong” (#10).

— A multi-format hit, “Boom Clap” also reaches new peaks of #13 at Hot AC, #20 at Rhythmic and #32 at AC this week.
