Playing spoiler for Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be,” at least for today, Charli XCX’s solo breakthrough “Boom Clap” exploded into the Top 40 on the latest edition of Mediabase’s pop radio airplay chart.
The rolling chart, which measures airplay for the seven days ending June 18, says the track from “The Fault in Our Stars” was the 40th-most-played on the pop format.
“Boom Clap,” which garnered 861 spins in the measured period, garnered an estimated 5.44 million audience impressions. Its audience count was the 39th-largest.
While the Clean Bandit song stays at #41 for the time being, it should enter the Top 40 soon. Added by three major stations this week, it is beginning to blossom on US pop radio.
Other movers at Top 40 radio:
— Nico and Vinz’ “Am I Wrong” reaches a new peak of #4. It trails Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy,” which features the aforementioned Charli XCX, Ariana Grande’s “Problem (featuring Iggy Azalea)” and Calvin Harris’ “Summer” but is actually gaining airplay at a faster rate than all of them.
— The only song rising faster is MAGIC!’s “Rude,” which charges past Katy Perry’s “Birthday” to rank at #10 on the chart.
— Disclosure’s “Latch (featuring Sam Smith)” lifts one spot to #12.
— Despite only launching a few days ago, Maroon 5’s “Maps” is already #30 for the trailing seven days.
