Though not officially renewed today, one should not have required a news story to know that ABC would be bringing back “Scandal,” “Modern Family,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Castle” and “Once Upon a Time.”
Realistically, one should have felt safe assuming new series “The Goldbergs,” “Agents of SHIELD” and “Resurrection” would return next season. If one did make that assumption, he was proven correct Thursday. All scored second seasons.
“Revenge” seemed like more of a toss-up. While it requires only one more season to reach syndication levels, its ratings have sunk into an abyss this season. Would the potential value of a syndication deal warrant another low-rated season?
The answer is yes, because ABC also renewed “Revenge.”
The network did not officially confirm a renewal for “The Middle,” but sources say it is expected. According to Deadline, “Last Man Standing” also looks like a lock to return.
“Nashville,” though considered a likely renewal target, remains on the bubble. Now considered unlikely for next season are “The Neighbors,” “Mixology” and “Trophy Wife.” “Suburgatory” might also be in trouble.
