Yes, Tuesday’s “The Voice” finale ultimately existed to crown Tessanne Chin the music competition series’ fifth winner.
But with nearly two hours to fill prior to that big announcement, NBC’s reality series needed to offer viewers motivation to watch the entire live finale.
As is the logical tradition for music competition finales, “The Voice” relied on live performances to provide that needed incentive.
Featuring various combinations of the season’s Top 20 contestants, celebrity performers and even one of the coaches, the performances attempted to appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes.
Rich with thrilling–and not-so-thrilling–moments, the finale found its greatest intrigue in a quintent of duets. Three involved the competition’s finalists performing alongside established music stars. One featured the first pairing between pop queens Christina Aguilera (also a coach on “The Voice”) and Lady Gaga. The other brought together two of the night’s celebrity guests.
NBC’s official photos of those performances–Jacquie Lee and Paramore on “Ain’t it Fun,” Will Champlin and Aloe Blacc on “Wake Me Up,” Tessanne Chin and Celine Dion on “Love Can Move Mountains,” Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga on “Do What U Want” and Dion and Ne-Yo on “Incredible”–follow:
