Though its numbers remained greatly above last season’s averages, Wednesday’s “American Horror Story: Coven” endured another sizable drop.
Down 16% from last week’s performance, “Coven” delivered a 2.1 rating in the adults 18-49 demo. It once again placed second among Wednesday’s cable broadcasts, but its distance from number one series “Duck Dynasty” widened. Separated by only 0.4 last week (2.5 vs. 2.9), it trailed this week’s “Dynasty” by a whopping 1.4 ratings differential (2.1 vs. 3.5).
Wednesday’s episode averaged 3.78 million viewers.
The show’s demo rating and total viewership remain very impressive by cable standards, but they have fallen significantly from the 10/9 premiere numbers. That episode drew a 3.0 rating with 5.54 million viewers.
Because curiosity obviously played a role in driving the initial numbers, it will be interesting to see where “Coven” settles.
“Asylum,” last year’s installment, opened its season with a 2.2 adults 18-49 rating and 3.85 million viewers before bottoming out at a 0.9 rating with 1.89 million viewers for the sixth episode on Thanksgiving Eve. Episode ten, the least-viewed non-holiday episode, drew a 1.2 rating with 2.21 million viewers.
