Last week, Lorde’s breakthrough hit “Royals” became the first female-performed song to top the Billboard Alternative Chart in seventeen years.
With that throne still intact, “Royals” adds another chart to its empire this week. Ending a record 24-week reign for Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive,” the Lorde song advances to number one on Billboard’s Rock Airplay chart.
And indications are that the New Zealand singer-songwriter’s presence is only beginning to be felt. “Royals” recently advanced into the Top 10 on the iTunes single sales chart, and it will also start at number 39 on Billboard’s Pop Songs chart.
Billboard has not yet revealed positions for the coming week’s Hot 100 but after climbing from 39 to 24 last week, “Royals” looks poised for more upward movement on that chart as well.
The success of “Royals” will help launch Lorde’s debut LP “Pure Heroine” on September 30.
