“Under the Dome” Gets Season Two, Books Stephen King to Write Premiere

With impressive ratings by any standard–let alone that for a summer series–“Under the Dome” was certain to receive a second season renewal from CBS.

Less certain was the specific nature of the renewal, including the scheduling location–and duration–of the show’s inevitable second season. CBS put that murkiness to rest Monday, officially announcing that “Dome” will return next summer for a thirteen episode second season.

In addition to touting its second season order, CBS also revealed that Stephen King, who wrote the novel, will pen the second season premiere.

“We’re excited to tell more stories about the mystery of the dome and the secrets in Chester’s Mill, and are thrilled to have the master storyteller himself, Stephen King, tell the first one of next season,” said CBS’ Nina Tassler.

Despite lackluster reviews, “Under the Dome” premiered to monster ratings and has held remarkably steady across several episodes.
