Though its fifth season premiere remains months away, “Glee” has spent significant time in the spotlight amid numerous casting updates.
First came the news that long-time cast members like Heather Morris and Mark Salling would not return as regulars for season five. “Glee” matched that story with more upbeat news, noting that four of the season four newscomers (along with Alex Newell, who joined in season three) were officially promoted to regulars for the upcoming season.
Tuesday’s casting announcement regarding new recurring characters then built to a story Wednesday, in which “Glee” creator Ryan Murphy confirmed that the eighth “American Idol” runner-up will be joining the cast next season.
“I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall,” Tweeted Murphy.
A frequent subject of “Glee” casting rumors, Lambert follows season eleven runner-up Jessica Sanchez in appearing on the show. Implicit in Murphy’s announcement, however, is the notion that Lambert will have a larger role than Sanchez did in the most recent season.
