It had all the makings of a bomb from its premise and trailers, and sure enough, “Hit and Run” has not been impressing at the box office.
The comedy barely even registered in its opening on Wednesday, and things did not pick up for the start of the weekend. The film earned just $1.4 million on Friday for tenth place, bringing its cumulative total to a paltry $2.6 million.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt vehicle “Premium Rush” fared only slightly better, opening to a mere $2.0 million for eighth place on Friday.
There was little to celebrate whatsoever at the box office, with current leader “The Expendables 2” delivering only $3.9 million in its second Friday. It reigned over “The Bourne Legacy” ($2.7 million) and “ParaNorman” ($2.3 million) for the top spot.
Certainly no blockbuster, “2016: Obama’s America” nonetheless performed decently on a per-screen basis, netting $2067 from each screen for a $2.3 million fourth place finish on Friday. It slightly topped “The Campaign” ($2.2 million), which remains in about three times as many theatres.
“The Apparition,” released semi-wide on 810 screens, debuted to $1.2 million for twelfth place. It earned more per-screen than every top five member but “2016.”
