No Comedy Upset at the Emmys; “Modern Family” Wins for Best Comedy

There were some interesting upsets early in the 2011 Emmy Awards broadcast, but when it came time for the big awards, the predictable happened.

“Mad Men” claimed the prize for Best Drama, and sure enough, “Modern Family” repeated as Outstanding Comedy Series.

The win was expected–while shows like “Glee” slumped heavily in their second season (though it still garnered a nomination), “Modern Family” kept the quality high. As a show that is both mainstream and clever, it’s a formidable creative challenger in the comedy space.

“Parks and Recreation,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “30 Rock,” “The Office” and “Glee” were the other nominees.
