Thanks to lukewarm performances from this week’s new releases, Adele’s “21” has a chance of returning to the top spot on the Billboard 200.
The album, which continues to sell like hot cakes, will add between 60-65,000 units to its total, projects Hits Daily Double. Hits bases its forecasts on Tuesday’s single-day sales data.
Competing with the Adele album will be the latest Kidz Bop release. Tracking currently has the “Kidz Bop 20” album slightly behind Adele’s “21,” but late-week shakeups are always possible.
In terms of new, original releases, 3 Doors Down’s “Time of My Life” leads the tracking with a forecasted opening week total of 55-60,000. Singles “When You’re Young” and “Every Time You Go” have been slow performers, and the result is a significant album sales decline from predecessor “3 Doors Down,” which moved 154,000 units in its first week.
311’s “Universal Pluse” is pacing for a debut in the 50-55,000 range, down slightly from the 60,000 for predecessor “Uplifter,” while DJ Khaled’s “We the Best Forever” is eyeing 40-45,000. Though the Hits Daily Double report says this is a significant decline from last year’s “Victory,” correct data for that album says it only moved about 28,000 copies in week one.
