Demi Lovato’s “Skyscraper” Opens to Strong Sales, Big Chart Debut

Though not always enamored with her records, many critics have identified Demi Lovato as the most vocally-talented of the recent wave of Disney and Nickelodeon singer-actresses. Her powerful ballad “Skyscraper” reaped the commercial rewards of such vocal strength.

The single, a comeback for Lovato after a much-publicized stint in rehab, debuts at number two on the Billboard Digital Songs chart with 176,000 downloads. Lovato previously hit number two for her “This is Me” due with Joe Jonas, but the 176,000 figure marks her best digital sales week to date.

With such strong sales, “Skyscraper” should debut solidly on the Billboard Hot 100. That chart releases Thursday.

For as strong as that figure was, it was not enough to top LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem,” which again topped the digital chart on sales of 215,000. Katy Perry’s “Last Friday Night (TGIF)” landed in third on 172,000, topping Nicki Minaj’s “Super Bass” (155,000) and Lil Wayne’s “How to Love” (137,000).
