While the judging scenario for FOX’s US version of “The X Factor” looks to end up fairly predictable, there was a minor surprise in the confirmation of the show’s two hosts.
According to THR, the FOX music competition series has booked Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones as its co-hosts. Scherzinger, famous for her work with the Pussycat Dolls, was one of Simon Cowell’s top choices for the show and was viewed as a lock for months.
UK personality Jones, however, came as a surprise given the plethora of rumors claiming “High School Musical” star Corbin Bleu was eyed as the male co-host. Ultimately, however, the feeling was that Bleu’s chemistry with Scherzinger was underwhelming, and the show went with Jones.
As for the judges, Simon Cowell, Cheryl Cole and Antonio “L.A.” Reid have been confirmed, while negotiations are ongoing with Paula Abdul for the fourth and final slot. Cowell has long wanted to book his former “American Idol” judging partner for the show, but THR sources say that negotiations have hit some hurdles over the last few days. With the judges’ rounds on the show beginning Sunday, the hope is that the deal can be finalized in time for Abdul to make the scheduled taping.
(Update: While the story does not officially claim the deal is done, the Associated Press reports that Abdul is indeed expected to be at the Sunday taping)
I guess this means we should expect one of the following judges from the UK X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent to join the USA X Factor’s judging panel as well:
Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh, Amanda Holden, Michael Mcintyre
