As expected, NBC’s “The Voice” did not set any major records in its two-hour premiere Tuesday, although it definitely appears to have gotten off to a strong start.
Update: “The Voice” dominated the night in young adults, scoring a 5.1 adults 18-49 rating. It easily topped “Glee” and “Dancing with the Stars” in that key demo; Full ratings for “The Voice” vs. “Glee” vs. “Dancing”.
Assumed to skew at least remotely-young, NBC’s music competition series launched with a 7.5 overnight metered market rating Tuesday. As it is, that ranked it second for the 9PM and 10PM hours (behind ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” results show, 12.8, at 9PM and “Body of Proof,” 8.6, at 10PM) among households, and the fast national data, which includes performance in the adults 18-49 demo, should only make things look more favorable for “The Voice.”
Though it might still fall short of “Glee”‘s performance in the 18-49 demo, “The Voice” looks to have topped the FOX musical comedy in households. While overnight data should not be treated as final, it currently sits nearly a point above the 6.6 rating for the extended edition of “Glee.” From 9PM to 9:30PM, “The Voice” posted a 6.9 metered market number, topping the 6.5 for “Glee.”
As noted, metered market data is very subject to change and only reflective of household performance from a limited number of key markets. In order to claim true success, NBC’s “The Voice” will need to have posted–and be able to sustain–a solid number in the crucial young adult demographics.
