FX’s “Lights Out,” the recipient of one of the most aggressive promotional campaigns for a cable premiere in recent memory, bombed in its debut Tuesday.
The boxing drama, which was advertised extensively during major sporting events and should have received some auxiliary buzz from acclaimed film “The Fighter,” averaged only 1.5 million viewers in its series premiere Tuesday. That figure is actually below that of the “Terriers” premiere, which only lasted one season on FX.
The critically-acclaimed boxing series opened to a poor 0.6 adults 18-49 rating. Between its 10PM, 11PM and 1AM airings, “Lights Out” only mustered total viewership of 2.4 million viewers.
One would be hard-pressed to defend “Lights Out,” at its current level, as anything more than a disappointment. If it suffers the usual downturn over the next few weeks, it will be an all-out failure.
This is going to get cancelled if it stays this low. It is as good as done. Looks like another flop for F/X.
