Juan Cena, John Cena’s “Mexican cousin,” made his official WWE live event debut at a house show in Salisbury, Maryland Sunday.
The character, apparently portrayed by John Cena in a purple and yellow mask, replaced his “cousin” in the main-event of the show. Juan competed in a match with The Miz and Wade Barrett.
Throughout the match, Juan performed a number of John Cena’s signature moves, including the Five Knuckle Shuffle and Attitude Adjustment.
Interestingly, no storyline explanation was given for the character’s sudden appearance. Though it was known WWE had to find a way to keep Cena on the live events until he is “reinstated” from his storyline firing, one would have assumed WWE would at least attempted to explain the reason this masked wrestler was suddenly competing in a WWE main-event.
Despite noting on Twitter that he would be present at the show as himself, John Cena did not appear before the live crowd. WWE, therefore, did not even attempt to run a “how can he be in two places at once” gimmick on the show.
