Antonio Margarito’s Face Makes Waves After Loss to Manny Pacquiao

Though Antonio Margarito can celebrate the fact that he lasted all twelve rounds with acclaimed boxer Manny Pacquiao in their bout Saturday, the damage visible on his face was hardly worthy of a smile.

The boxer was brutalized over twelve rounds of action, as evidenced by the lopsided scorecards of 120-108, 119-109 and 118-108. Following the fight, Internet fans rushed to catch a glimpse of Margarito’s busted mug.

Currently tracking as one of the top Google Searches, “antonio margarito face” yields some frightening images about what a twelve-round onslaught can do to a man, no matter how laudable his toughness.

The damage to Margarito’s face was hardly the most shocking seen in combat sports, but it was still evidence of just how dangerous the smaller Manny Pacquiao can be inside the ring.

  1. I don’t know very much about boxing but it looks, from the pictures, that Manny really messed Antonio up “big time” even though they both lasted 12 rounds.

  2. thats very bad also to the referee, instead he stop the fight at the 10th, the referee must also concern to the fighters welfare

  3. I absolutely agree. The fight should have been stopped by the 10th round. Team Margarito’s corner should have thrown the towel. Pride and bravery is already known to Mexican no matter what, in this case Margarito, even if the fight is stopped.

  4. Manny was right in saying that the referee, (the trainer and the doctor) should have decided to stop the fight as early as the ninth round. You don’t fight in the ring to die and pride in itself is a dangerous front in this dangerous sport.

  5. I have deeply touched with Margarito’s heart. I am a Filipino and a fan of Pacman who cheers when he is winning. I really agree that the fight should be stopped. Pride would bring you to death or disability!

  6. referree Lawrence Cole was simply an incompe3tent one.when he should have stopped the fight to save margarito from further beatings he did not. question on my mind .”did he bet on Margarito? was he hoping that margarito can knockn out pacman in the last 2 rounds? Cole has placed himself in a bad light..he3 should never again be referree. See Pacquiao-Barrera 1

  7. Lawrence Cole doesn’t want to get blamed by margarito’s camp if he stops the fight pre-maturely. On the other hand, Roberto Garcia should protect margarito for any severe damaged that it may cause, not letting the fighter or referee to stop the fight. If Roberto Garcia is a truly a good person, his priority should be the welfare and safety of his fighter.

  8. mexicans before are known for their toughness and pride but after the margarito fight they added dumbness in their character….well done corner men of margarito!!!

  9. This is the same crappy ref who kept encouraging Yuri Foreman to fight with that wobbly knee against Cotto. Dude is gonna have a fighter die on his watch someday.

  10. robert garcia hides his vileness by deliberately speaking softly. yet the defeat of his ward margarito against manny demonstrated his that his hatred came to the fore egged by his pride and ambition to be as great a trainer as roach had margarito won. better luck next time bozzo. i liked you before because you trained nonito, but i doubt your capacity now.

  11. Bob Arum is thinking of a Cotto-Margarito rematch next year. This is interesting because Cotto for sure will take advantage of Margarito’s injuries, especially his right eye area, where the doctors said that he needs to undergo surgery to repair some fractured bones.

  12. During the fight, I was very excited every time Manny pummeled Margarito. Doubly excited when Marg was bloodied and clearly losing to the punch.

But in the later rounds, I pitied him and got irritated by the action/no-action of the corner men to stop the fight. It was already a clear defeat for their fighter but they continued just to protect their pride? I think it was not pride what Garcia was thinking in that time – it was his AMBITION to be known as a great trainor to the expense of Margarito’s safety and future.

Clearly, Garcia is a bad ambitious person.

  13. cornermen should be the one to decide if fighters should go on fighting..
in the heat of a fight, fighters can’t think straight bec. of the blows they are getting.
somehow we can’t blame margarito, he gained respect with his toughness.

  14. margarito almost got KO’d in the 4th round… that’s the round where his cheeks started to bleed. poor boy, he thought he got hit by a baseball bat in the head… the face (eyes, cheeks, nose, mouth, chin). margarito entered the ring as a mexican, came out like a drunk north korean guy.

  15. This fight should have been stopped after the 10th round. Boxing fans would not have questioned Margarito’s bravery or pride…He is a complete fighter without question, But at some point after the ninth round, Bob Garcia or Lawrence Cole should have said enough is enough…when a fighter has no snap to his jab to make it count and a badly disconfigured face, you have to do the right thing and save the fighter. A good fighter will never give up & Margarito wasn’t going to. In my opinion, Bob Garcia is an incomplete trainer, if he doesn’t know when to say “Enough” and go out on the limb and save his fighter. Now Margarito’s boxing career lies in jeopardy.

  16. Zyrene Parsad is very, very beautiful while Martin Nievera did the best rendition of “Lupang Hinirang.” Martin, you’re indeed a very creative composer/modifier.

Mayweather is genius, he knew he will be KOed and/or face be configured if ever he fights Pacquiao. Mayweather, you still have choice, $41M and 41W-1L or $0M and lost by default????

Lawrence Cole and Robert Garcia will forever be haunted and lingered by their guilty conscience for not stopping the fight. I wouldn’t trade that chicken pride with a shattered eye bone socket.

  17. This trainer for Margorito doesn’t think about his fighter one bit because if he did then he would have stopperd it in the tenth round. And it show us what class of people that whole group was NO CLASS—I’m not saying All Mexicans are like that but these guys are just a bunch of THUGS! What type of person would make fun of another man’s ailment
    (Roache’s Parkinsons).
He wasn’t the only one to blame– that ref should have ended it sooner too. I hear his the son of the commissoner of boxing in Tx., I guess Daddy tells him what to do. They really need to bring the big fights back to Las Vegas where they have better refs….Lol
