“Psych” Ratings Down From Last Year’s Midseason Premiere

Though variations in month of broadcast and level of network competition make an apples-to-apples comparison impossible, it is nonetheless a fact that Wednesday’s midseason “Psych” premiere was down sharply from the season four midseason bow.

At 2.79 million viewers with a 1.0 adults 18-49 rating, the fifth midseason “Psych” premiere was down only slightly from the summer finale. Compared to its fourth season counterpart, however, it was down a whopping 33% in the demo. That episode, which featured WWE RAW Superstar John Cena as a guest star, posted a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating with 4.37 million viewers in January 2010.

The critically-acclaimed “Psych,” one of the creative highlights of USA Network’s slate of successful original series, has already received the greenlight for season six. But given the show’s continued critical momentum, expanding social media presence and the recent “Psych” college tour, there was certainly hope that Wednesday’s airing would have turned in a more impressive rating.
