“Modern Family” Ratings Improve, “Law & Order: LA” Struggles

Interest in the Emmy-winning “Modern Family” is not going anywhere; the rock solid comedy delivered another dominant performance for ABC Wednesday night.

The fourth episode of the sophomore season garnered a 4.7 adults 18-49 rating with 11.34 million viewers. Up slightly from last week, the episode also provided a boost to 9:30 lead-out “Cougar Town” (up to a 3.2 with 7.30 million viewers).

The network’s 8PM entries were less spectacular; “The Middle” kicked off with a respectable 2.4 rating and 7.94 million viewers while “Better With You” landed a 2.1 with 6.50 million.

A “20/20” special on the Chilean Miners substituted for “The Whole Truth” at 10PM. It scored a 1.8 rating with 6.16 million viewers.

NBC, meanwhile, had a rough night. “Undercovers” could only register a 1.5 rating with 5.98 million; a sole bright spot is the fact that the show built on its audience over the hour. “Law & Order: SVU” was down again, this time to a mere 2.2 adults 18-49 rating with 8.00 million viewers.

The peacock’s night of disappointment concluded with a poorly-rated edition of “Law & Order: Los Angeles.” After getting off to a solid start for its premiere two weeks ago, “LOLA” has already vanquished any sign of breakout promise–Wednesday’s episode posted a 1.9 with 7.20 million viewers.
