As with artists like Jason DeRulo and Taio Cruz, Bruno Mars is finding out that male pop/hip-hop radio sensations have no guarantee of massive album sales debuts.
Based on one-day sales extensions from Hits Daily Double, the singer’s “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” will open with about 45-50,000 first week sales, a respectable but hardly incredible first week figure. In addition to launching his own number one hit in “Just the Way You Are,” the singer-songwriter has been part of smashes like BoB’s “Nothin’ On You” and Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire.”
Mars’ album will land behind Kenny Chesney’s holdover “Hemingway’s Whiskey” and Toby Keith’s new “Bullets in the Gun,” which should open to 65-70,000.
Other debuts include Waka Flocka Flame’s “Flockaveli” (35-40,000) and David Archuleta’s “The Other Side of Down” (22-25,000).
