Professional hockey is hardly at an impressive level of domestic popularity, nor has it recovered to interest levels from decades prior, but the NHL did get good news in the rating for game one of the Stanley Cup Finals.
According to a press release from NBC, game one of the series between the Philadelphia Flyers and Chicago Blackhawks posted a 2.8/6 overnight rating Saturday night. The mark was up more than ten percent from last year’s 2.5 and was the highest-rated game one since the Sabres-Stars opener in 1999 (3.7 overnight rating).
For game ones played on a Saturday, it was the best mark since a 5.1 for the Flyers-Red Wings played in 1997.
The show posted a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating, giving NBC the Saturday victory.
