“Shrek: The Final Chapter” officially became the franchise’s worst-performing sequel to date, at least as far as opening weekends are concerned, scoring just $71.3 million at the box office.
While that figure is ordinarily nothing at which to sneeze, it does represent a drop-off of 41% from the $121.7 million opening weekend of “Shrek The Third.”
The total was nonetheless more than enough to give “Shrek” the box office victory, as nearest competitor “Iron Man 2” was good for only $26.6 million in its third week. “Robin Hood” followed with $18.7 million, topping “Letters to Juliet” ($9.1 million) and “Just Wright” ($4.2 million).
New release “MacGruber,” an extension of the “Saturday Night Live” sketches with Will Forte and Kristen Wiig, bombed with just $4.1 million for sixth place.

71.3 million dollars is great. its still good. i think some of critic people are way too negative and pessimistic. i think it did very good this weekend.
