A country music awards show that does not recognize Taylor Swift with its most prestigious honors? In 2010?
The 45th Academy of Country Music Awards ceremony did just that, awarding none of its top prizes to the breakout female who is currently America’s most commercially-successful recording artist. As reported earlier, album of the year went to Miranda Lambert’s “Revolution,” while Lambert and Brad Paisley earned Top Female and Male Vocalist, respectively.
As for entertainer of the year, a fan-selected award, that went to Carrie Underwood, who pulled down the award for her second-consecutive year. In addition to remaining one of the country fanbase’s most beloved performers (and it is the fans who vote), Underwood also had another wildly successful year; her “Play On” produced number ones in “Cowboy Casanova” and “Temporary Home.”
Underwood defeated Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, George Strait, Keith Urban and the Zac Brown Band. She now ranks as the first female to win two Entertainer of the Year awards.
