Breaking: Brock Lesnar Withdraws From Major UFC Fight

UFC President Dana White confirmed to Yahoo! Sports that Brock Lesnar has pulled out of the scheduled UFC 106 main event.

Lesnar, the promotion’s undisputed heavyweight champion, was to defend against contender Shane Carwin. Already on the map of MMA diehards after making quick work of Gabriel Gonzaga, Carwin brought heat to the planned UFC 106 encounter by publicly criticizing Brock for his post-UFC 100 comments.

Supplemented by a co-main-event of Tito Ortiz vs. Forrest Griffin, the card was expected to top 1 million buys. Illness, however, took its toll on the megacard, with Lesnar pulling out due to a sickness that has kept him out of training for a month.

“He said he’s never been this sick in his life,” said White. “He said it’s been going on for a long time and he just hasn’t been able to shake it.”

At press time, it was not clear if Carwin would receive a replacement bout (which, if he were to lose, would jeopardize his status as number one contender) or be pulled from the card until the Lesnar fight could be rescheduled.
