No Surprises As “30 Rock” and “Mad Men” Win Top Emmy Awards

It was the most diverse group of Outstanding Comedy nominees ever–everything from “Family Guy” to “How I Met Your Mother” to “Flight of the Conchords” was in the mix. It was one of the most stacked groups of Outstanding Drama nominees ever–veteran picks like “House” and “Lost” battled with up-and-comers in “Big Love” and “Breaking Bad.”

But when it came time to open the envelopes, the element of surprise was gone: “30 Rock” and “Mad Men” repeated as the champions of comedic and dramatic television, respectively.

For “30 Rock,” it was the third Outstanding Comedy Emmy in three years on the air. “Mad Men,” meanwhile, improved its situation to 2-for-2.

Falling short in the comedy category were “The Office,” “Weeds,” “How I Met Your Mother,” “Flight of the Conchords,” “Family Guy” and “Entourage.”

Dramatic nominees included “Damages,” “Dexter,” “Breaking Bad,” “Lost,” “House” and “Big Love.”
