WWE announced late Thursday that Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio, Jr. has been suspended.
“In accordance with WWE’s Wellness Program, effective Wednesday, September 2, Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) is suspended for 30 days for a violation of the company’s policy,” read the statement. Nothing more specific was announced.
WWE also has not yet announced plans for the future of Mysterio’s championship. As of press time, WWE.com was still advertising WWE Superstars’ number one contendership bout, in which the winner was to qualify for a “Breaking Point” match with Mysterio. But because Mysterio’s thirty day suspension will keep him off that PPV card, he will likely have to drop the belt.
Supporting the likely title change is the fact that the suspension kicks in Wednesday. That allows Mysterio to work a title match at next week’s SmackDown! taping.
