Based on TNA’s continued support of Kurt Angle in the fallout of his arrest Saturday, it appears that many of his wrestling peers have taken his side in the matter.
Angle and his attorney have spoken confidently their ability to clear the Olympic Gold Medalist on all pending charges, but that does not mean their statements have been flawless.
When interviewed by the arresting officer Saturday, Angle attributed Rhaka Khan’s protection from abuse order to an altercation they had Friday night.
“Angle stated his ex-girlfriend, (name removed), and he had an altercation at his residence in Moon township last evening,” read the police report.
When interviewed this week by Pittsburgh’s ABC affiliate, however, Angle denied allegations that an incident prompted the PFA.
“No, I wasn’t a threat. There was no fight at all. It got to the point in our relationship where we weren’t even talking,” said Angle. “She was just living in my house. She would never leave. I couldn’t physically move her.”
Thursday, in an interview on “Bubba The Love Sponge,” Angle clarified his picture of the scenario on Friday night. According to a PWTorch.com write-up, the TNA Champion said that the woman in question wanted to have a discussion about their futures Friday night. Angle brushed her off, saying he wanted to sleep, and she responded by obtaining the PFA Saturday morning.
While the stories do appear contradictory–after telling police that an altercation prompted Khan to obtain the PFA Saturday, he now maintains that there was no serious incident–evidence is not yet sufficient to criticize Angle’s statements as inconsistent. Kurt has not been taken to task regarding the disparity between the police report and recent interviews and has thus not been given the chance to explain the difference (he could, for instance, have considered the dialogue exchange on Friday to be an “altercation”).
And, even if Angle were proven to have provided incorrect information on Friday night’s events, it is not necessarily relevant to his case. Whether or not an incident prompted Rhaka Khan to get the protection from abuse order, if Angle could prove that he left the house first (and thus could not have been “stalking” the TNA Knockout), he would presumably be cleared on that charge.
It is, nonetheless, interesting to see how one’s telling of a story changes over the course of a few days.
