Ratings: “Liv and Maddie” Season Premiere Viewership Declines From 2014

Comprised of back-to-back episodes, Sunday’s third season “Liv and Maddie” premiere averaged a 0.30 in adults 18-49, a 0.29 in adults 18-34 and 1.751 million in total viewers.

Two of the three numbers — the adults 18-49 rating and the total viewership number — trail those posted by the second season premiere. Airing on September 21, 2014, that episode scored a 0.33 in adults 18-49, a 0.25 in adults 18-34, and a viewership average of 2.041 million.

All three numbers, meanwhile, trail those posted by the season two finale. That episode, which aired on August 23, drew a 0.42 in adults 18-49, a 0.30 in adults 18-34 and 2.446 million viewers.

Worth noting is the fact that this week’s “Liv and Maddie” episode faced competition from the first Sunday Night Football game of the season. Indicative of the potential impact: the 8:30PM episode, which aired against actual in-game action, drew fewer viewers than the 8:00PM broadcast (0.29/0.29/1.704 million vs. 0.31/0.29/1.798 million).

By the same token, last year’s “Liv and Maddie” also aired against a Sunday Night Football game. While that game (Steelers vs. Panthers) was not as high-profile as a launch game between the Giants and Cowboys, its existence still represented massive competition for the season two “Liv and Maddie” opener.
