Taylor Swift Tops Katy Perry, Becomes Biggest Digital Act Ever

Thanks to a new round of single certifications, the Recording Industry Association of America now identifies Taylor Swift as the biggest digital act ever.

To reach the #1 spot, Swift had to leapfrog her supposed “Bad Blood” target Katy Perry.

The certified unit count for Taylor Swift’s library of singles now stands at a whopping 77 million. Perry, whom the RIAA celebrated as its biggest digital act in a press reveal last June, has garnered a total of 72 million certified units.

(A certified unit is equal to either one paid download or one hundred streams)

Other dominant digital forces include Rihanna (52 million certified units), Kanye West (32.5 million certified units) and Lil Wayne (32 million certified units).

Swift’s ascent to #1 on the digital singles leaderboard comes days after the sales total for her blockbuster album “1989” crossed the 4 million mark. The RIAA issued a 4x-platinum certification this week.
