Blake Shelton Responds to Holly Tucker Critic: “Grow Some Balls”

Critics looking to write dismissively about a member of Team Blake Shelton should prepare themselves for a lashing from “The Voice”‘s resident country coach.

Shelton responded aggressively to a Houston Chronicle music critic early Tuesday, challenging the writer to “grow some balls and come tell me to my face how terrible some of these kids are face to face.”

Prompting Shelton’s rant was a Tweet from Chronicle music critic Joey Guerra, who Tweeted of Holly Tucker’s elimination from the competition, “#TheVoice sends one singer back to Texas. Don’t worry, it’s not the one we care about.”

In his brief review of Tuesday’s Top 6 results show, Guerra added, “OH. Holly Tucker is gone. It took much too long. But finally. Back to Baylor University in Waco for you, madam.”

Far from vitriolic, Guerra’s words clearly enraged Tucker’s coach Blake Shelton, who called the “chick sh*t” writer out in a string of Tweets.

“It’s people like you @joeyguerra that make me sick… Holly is not only a talented singer but a great person that’s simply chasing a dream..How about you @joeyguerra grow some balls and come tell me to my face how terrible some of these kids are face to face..? You won’t. Ever. You @joeyguerra are a chicken shit. I can’t stand a person that makes a point to write hurtful things about kids just trying their best..I swear to god I cant understand the mentality of a grown man ripping on young kids over and over again for just trying their hardest. Kids! How much do y’all wanna bet he’d NEVER criticize my team OR me like that face to face…. Chicken shit..”

Shelton also replied to followers’ questions about Guerra, noting that “He’s been ripping these kids all season.. I’m fed up with it.”

Aware that his comments likely ruffled some feathers, Shelton later noted, “I’m sorry for going off y’all… But I am passionate about encouraging young people to follow their dreams.. We GOOD people don’t need hate.”

Guerra, reveling in the attention from Shelton’s rant, has not yet responded.
