Josh Groban Covers One Direction in Emmy “In Memoriam” Tribute

Merging a boy band act that drives pre-teens and teens wild with one of the biggest adult contemporary heartthrobs, an Emmys 2012 parody sketch handed the slightly-modified lyrics and melody of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” over to Josh Groban.

Parodying the “In Memoriam” segments, which admittedly do seem like a strange target for a parody, the segment featured Groban offering a serious, piano-driven cover version of the song.

As Groban played and sang, video montages celebrated the life of still-living Emmy host Jimmy Kimmel.
