“American Idol” Eliminates Buzzworthy Contestant; Latest Results Revealed

After landing in the bottom three on the heels of a comedy performance, Heejun Han demonstrated a commitment to seriousness with a heartfelt rendition of “A Song For You” on this week’s “American Idol.”

The judges loved it, but it unfortunately was not enough of a turnaround to keep the contestant, known for his deadpan, off-beat, comedic presentation, in the competition. He received the lowest number of votes after Top 9 night, and the judges opted not to use their save on the contestant.

Hollie Cavanagh and Skylar Laine joined Han in the bottom three, with Skylar the first sent back to safety.

While Cavanagh’s placement in the bottom three was expected after a lukewarm reaction to her version of “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” most figured Laine was far too popular to land in the bottom group at this point. Evidently, her status as the show’s only country performer is not enough to secure a sizable portion of the votes this season.

The top eight return to the stage next week.
