“Modern Family” Ratings Bounce Back, “The Middle” Up With Less Competition

While CBS’ flagship comedy lineup returned Monday with less heat than it had in the fall, it appears television viewers were ready for a New Year of ABC comedy. All of the network’s series were up in the ratings Wednesday.

Though competition was very light without “The X Factor” and an original “Criminal Minds,” “Modern Family” can still be thankful that it bounced back to a 5.6 adults 18-49 rating with 14.0 million, which is basically on par with its marks from earlier in the season.

Lead-out “Happy Endings” benefited, rising to a 3.3 adults 18-49 rating and 7.7 million.

“The Middle” (3.0, 10.0 million) and “Suburgatory” (2.9, 8.7 million) were also up from their prior telecasts; the extent to which they climbed due to the lack of original NBC comedy episodes remains to be seen.

On the drama front, “Revenge” returned with a slight uptick to a 2.5 and 8.0 million.
