“Friday Night Lights” Scores Drama Emmy Award

Could it really pull off the upset for Outstanding Drama Series?

That remains to be seen, but “Friday Night Lights” can at least rest assured it’s not going home empty-handed. Following its fifth and final season, “FNL” finally saw its writing get recognized.

Jason Katims won the Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series Emmy Sunday night, beating out contenders from shows like “Mad Men,” “The Killing” and “Game of Thrones.”

— On the directing front, film veteran Martin Scorsese won for his work on “Boardwalk Empire.”
