Big Shocker as “Mike & Molly” Star Wins Emmy Award for Lead Actress

Julie Bowen’s win over “Modern Family” co-star Sofia Vergara might have been slightly shocking and Jim Parsons’ win over Steve Carell might have been slightly disappointing, but neither ‘shock’ compares to that of the reveal in the Outstanding Lead Actress category.

Against heavy-hitters like Tina Fey, Laura Linney, Amy Poehler, Martha Plimpton, Laura Linney and Edie Falco, Melissa McCarthy managed to claim the Emmy Award for her work on “Mike & Molly.”

The upset victory comes hot on the heels of her well-received movie turn in “Bridesmaids.” It also represents another lead victory for a castmember on a Chuck Lorre show, perhaps a sign of the academy making the case that Charlie Sheen was not Lorre’s most impressive lead actor.
