“Bucky Larson” Horribly Bombs, “Contagion” Leads Box Office, “Warrior” Slow

Another very soft weekend box office will fall in favor of “Contagion,” the only new film to make any sort of splash this weekend.

The star-studded “Contagion” opened to $8 million Friday, which should put it on track to cross $20 million by the end of the weekend. That trajectory is exactly as was expected for the well-reviewed thriller.

Even though it is finally showing signs of slowing down, “The Help,” at just $2.7 million Friday, still claimed second place and should carry that on for the weekend. It outpaced new release “Warrior” (a soft $1.8 million despite glowing reviews), “The Debt” ($1.4 million) and “Columbiana” ($1.2 million).

One curious about new release “Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star” would have to go all the way down to the twelfth position on the chart. The abysmally-reviewed release garnered just $540,000 Friday.
