News on WWE’s Plans for John Cena vs. CM Punk at Money in the Bank

With WWE’s Money in the Bank taking place in Chicago, odds are a near certainty that CM Punk will enter the arena as a significant fan favorite. And according to F4WOnline.com, WWE is currently fine with that.

As referenced on this week’s RAW, John Cena is teasing that he will be entering “hostile territory” at Money in the Bank. While it could be hard to get the fans to turn in favor of Cena, it would not be out of the norm to have Punk cut a heel promo on his hometown crowd to get some boos.

But as far as MITB is concerned, WWE’s current plan is for Punk to refrain from doing so and simply let the fans cheer how they want. With the current angle involving Punk, Cena and McMahon likely to turn Punk into an anti-establishment face anyway, the feeling is that fighting with a Punk promo has little value.

That being said, if WWE does not have a great vision either for Punk to continue past his contract expiration date or for a major return down the road, focusing on letting Punk work as a face might become less of a priority on the day of the show.
