“American Idol” Pushes Hulk Hogan Episode, Casey Save for Emmys Consideration

Wrestling television series are not known for landing on the Emmy Awards radar, but the industry’s most iconic personality is involved in a high-profile submission for this year’s Emmys race.

FOX recently posted its “for your consideration” videos for the television media, showcasing some of the episodes submitted for the season’s Emmy race. For “Glee,” it means episodes like “Original Song” and “Born this Way.” “Raising Hope” is showcasing “Happy Halloween” and “Don’t Vote for this Episode,” “Family Guy” believes in “Road to the North Pole” and “House” is all about “Family Practice.”

For “American Idol,” the long-snubbed reality juggernaut that many believe might finally have a chance at Outstanding Reality Competition Program due to the quality of its tenth season, the episode of choice is “1 of 11 voted off/Casey’s Save.”

Viewed as the best results show in the history of “American Idol,” at least since the shocking “Divas bottom three” in season three, the episode culminated with the emotional, dramatic reveal that the judges would save presumed-frontrunner Casey Abrams from the surprise, fan-voted elimination. Along the way, it featured a surprise appearance from Stevie Wonder, footage of a “wrestling match” at the “Idol” mansion and performances from Sugarland and Jennifer Hudson.

In a highlight moment, it also contained the surprise introduction of Hulk Hogan to diehard wrestling fan James Durbin. Hogan delivered the news that Durbin and Paul MacDonald were safe before sending Seacrest flying off the stage with a worked punch.
