Backstage News, Possible Spoilers for WWE Over the Limit

WWE’s “Over the Limit” pay-per-view has largely flown under the radar, although Extreme Rules from several weeks ago, it is not sharing a weekend with a big UFC show and thus has a chance to claim paying customers.

At the same time, it landed game three of the marquee Heat vs. Bulls NBA Playoffs series as its sports competition.

— It should be viewed as a given that John Cena is not verbally “quitting” in his match with The Miz Sunday, so unless WWE is planning some sort of twist finish, it looks like Cena is leaving with the WWE Championship intact.

That is also consistent with the belief that this would be the end of the Cena-Miz program for the short-term. As WWE builds Cena towards next year’s WrestleMania match with The Rock, it is looking to run some interim feuds–definitely with Alberto del Rio and possibly with R-Truth–so it would seem odd to continue the feud with a Miz victory.

WWE has, meanwhile, shown signs of committing to keeping Miz as a strong player on the RAW brand, so it will likely not totally bury him in Sunday’s match.

— On the subject of R-Truth, F4WOnline explains that Sunday is viewed as his latest big “opportunity” to show he belongs at the top of the RAW brand. Working against Rey Mysterio is never a big challenge, so if the match fails to click, it might lead to some doubt about whether he can hang at the top in the ring. Insiders have already been impressed with his character intensity as a heel.

— F4WOnline.com correctly notes that the CM Punk & Mason Ryan vs. Kane & Big Show match will kick speculation about CM Punk’s WWE status into high gear. If he wins, it would suggest that he has either renewed his contract or is close to re-signing. If he loses, and especially if he is the one getting pinned, it could mean WWE anticipates him leaving in the near future.
