“Chuck,” “Rules of Engagement” Will Likely Get Renewed, “$#*! My Dad Says” Not Dead Yet

This was supposed to be the year it finally died, but according to various reports, NBC’s “Chuck” might squeak by with another renewal.

Variety is among the sources saying that the Monday dramedy might earn a thirteen episode order for next season. Though everyone, by now, should know to never count out “Chuck,” its ratings have been at their lowest ever in recent months, and it finally seemed like NBC was going to move in a different direction.

But, as luck would have it, little new worked for NBC this season, and “Chuck” likely gets to stick around as a result.

— With every comedy on CBS down notably this spring, the Eye is reportedly looking to keep modestly-rated veteran “Rules of Engagement” on the schedule next year for some stability.

As for freshman comedies at CBS, “Mad Love” is likely gone, but Deadline notes that “$#*! My Dad Says” still has a chance at a second season. The William Shatner vehicle was far from a ratings force during its run earlier this season and was initially predicted to be a one-and-done offering, but its then-lackluster ratings would actually rank favorably against recent performances from CBS’ weakened comedy block.

The comparison, of course, is not apples-to-apples–with almost everything on broadcast down this spring, it is very likely “$#*!,” too, would be performing a lot less swimmingly if it were still airing.

The story explains that if the show does come back, it could, however, be without Jonathan Sadowski (who was, himself, a substitute for the originally-cast Ryan Devlin).
