“American Idol” Books 21st Century Theme, Confirms Next Week’s Guest Performers

After revisiting several old songs for this week’s Songs from the Movies Theme, “American Idol” will assure next week’s episode is fueled by contemporary music.

FOX announced that the top seven will perform “Songs from the 21st Century” on next Wednesday’s performance show. Similar versions of this theme have been used in past seasons, and it will be interesting to see who chooses to take on mainstream hits that remain fresh in the memory of “Idol” viewers.

Fitting for the theme, Katy Perry, music’s current top hitsmaker, will perform “E.T.” Season seven “Idol” winner David Cook will perform “The Last Goodbye.”
