“Adjustment Bureau” Tops “Beastly” at Box Office, “Take Me Home Tonight” Bombs

It was never going to be a box office smash nor a winner over “Rango,” but the well-reviewed “The Adjustment Bureau” is on track for a decent weekend box office debut.

Behind only the $9.8 million for “Rango” Friday, “Adjustment Bureau” landed in second place with $6.7 million. That sets the film on track for meeting its $18-21 million expectations and assures it will debut as the top newcomer.

Distantly behind Friday was “Beastly,” which earned $3.5 million Friday. Although that debut is little to celebrate and marks another soft box office performance for the supposed-breakout star Alex Pettyfer, it is slightly ahead of expectations.

And it could have been a lot worse–long-postponed “Take Me Home Tonight” finally debuted to a mere $1.3 million, which means it could fall short of its already-abysmal $4.5 million opening weekend forecast.
