“NCIS” Finally Beats “Glee” in Ratings Race, “Raising Hope” Improves

After last week’s unexpected downturn, Tuesday’s network television series made improvements this week. Unfortunately for FOX’s “Glee,” CBS’ “NCIS” made a much more significant improvement and finally won the 8PM timeslot among adults 18-49.

“NCIS” improved dramatically over last week’s number to a 4.4 rating and 21.28 million viewers, topping the 4.3 demo rating and 10.50 million viewership for “Glee.” “NCIS” always dominates the viewership race, but this marked the show’s first head-to-head win in the ad-friendly young adults demographic.

FOX’s 9PM remains weak, but things definitely perked up from last week–“Raising Hope” rebounded from last week’s crash to a 2.5 and 6.21 million, while “Traffic Light” was up to a 1.7 and 4.10 million in week three. “Traffic Light” is certainly still a bomb, but it does seem like it will represent a slight improvement over “Running Wilde” going forward.

CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles” dominated that hour, however, scoring a 3.9 and 18.58 million. Its lead-out “The Good Wife” dropped to a 1.9 and 11.51 million, however, achieving absolutely terrible retention out of its fellow sophomore series.

  1. Well, all I can say is “It’s about time!”. NCIS has long been the favorite show for my husband and myself! We are both 58 and have watched this show since its debut. I also noticed Paulette Perrey and Mark Harmon made appearances on late night television recently. That is the first time I can recall seeing any of the cast on late night. We would like to see the remaining cast members on late night programming when possible. We just hope this cast never gets broken up the way ‘Criminal Minds’ has this season. That show has become so gory we can scarcely watch it some weeks. However, NCIS still features the individual personalities of each cast member, and the plots remain really good (i.e., the storyline from 2/22/11).

  2. It’s hard for liberals to give awards to shows that portray good country caring people worrying about their fellow soldiers in a way they don’t.

  3. The characters on NCIS complement each other like the characters on Cheers or Seinfeld did when they aired. Humor, drama, intrigue, innuendo, plot twists etc. its all there. Mark Harmon just one the most popular TV star (beating out Oprah). So the only thing I can attribute to it not winning any awards is the fact that it must take intelligence from the voters and we know how that goes! The junk that is on TV now is just that! While some of it is entertaining, some is just pure garbage.
While some mindless gibberish is nice, too bad we cannot have something with a little substance to it. NCIS Rock On!
P.S. Love you Gibbs, Dinozo, McGee, Ziva, Abby, and Ducky

  4. NCIS is our households favorite show, transformation from JAG to NCIS was smooth and enjoy seeing old faces from JAG make guest appearances.

  5. The problem is the bleeding heart liberals who run the entertainment industry will never give this show the credit it deserves, therefore, it never wins any awards. The idea of people proudly serving their country and tracking down the bad guys go against everything the liberals stand for. Perhaps they could have Gibbs be a spy for the iranians, Ziva really be a suicide bomber, or Abby tampering with evidence so they could prove false theories about global warming, and have director Vance come on and preach how bad America really is ( Obama style ), then maybe the Hollywood liberals would give the show a little recognition. This show is the BEST drama on television, and in my estimation, the BEST show on television.

  6. My son (16) and I (56) BOTH love this show. (I guess we’re not in the ‘target’ audience.) Mark Harmon is the glue that bonds all the ‘characters’. I think he is a fantastic actor, as are all the others on the show. Love how they play off of each other. Let’s hope the cast stays together.

  7. I happen to be a bleeding-heart liberal AND I love this show. Congrats to the cast and crew for receiving SOME recognition of their hard work.

On a side note, thank you for the 2 comments about liberals–you and all blog posters and commenter just continually reaffirm to me that right wingers are gullible lemmings who will listen AND believe any garbage the right wing shock jocks will dispense.

  8. I’m a liberal and I love NCIS. The show is not just about serving your country, it’s about the bond and the relationship all of the characters have with each other. How can you not love Gibbs, Tony, McGee, Ziva, Ducky, and Abby?! They all crack me up with their classic reactions and one-liners. It’s not about liberals and conservatives. It’s about a good show!!!

  9. It’s an entertaining show and it’s done well over the years. CBS has a history of long running shows that haven’t made a big splash like the CSI franchise. Remember JAG and Walker Texas Ranger?

  10. I watched Glee the first season when it was fresh and original. This season however is a politcal correctness parade. Stopped watching it over a month ago. NCIS is one of my favorite shows. It is as good or better today as when it started.

  11. So I’m supposed to hate those horrible Hollywood liberals, even though they’re the same people that PUT ‘NCIS’ on the air in the first place?

  12. NCIS is the favorite show in our household! We can’t wait for Tuesday night until a new episode debuts. To get our fix every other day we watch re-runs of re-runs.We never get tired of the “boss” and his team.

  13. I love NCIS. I am so glad it beat Glee. I watched Glee for a while, but soon lost interest. The characters on NCIS are what keep me watching. I love the interaction and the acting is great. Good job NCIS!

  14. NCIS is positively our favorite show also. However, during last night’s episode I discovered that Gibbs and my wife are the only two people on the planet who don’t know what Pong is! Keep the cast together and keep rocking NCIS.
