WWE Confirms Major Royal Rumble Change

Through a variety of media, including Joey Styles’ Twitter, WWE confirmed Monday that this year’s Royal Rumble match will feature forty participants.

An expansion from the thirty count that has long been the standard for the Rumble main-event, which adheres to an over-the-top-rope battle royal format, this year’s contest will be the “biggest Royal Rumble Match in history!”

WWE has not yet confirmed whether the ninety second separation between Royal Rumble entrants will be maintained (at least on paper–it is doubtful WWE would adhere to that timeframe for the duration of the match).

The Royal Rumble pay-per-view airs on Sunday, January 30.
