“Jersey Shore” Reunion Ratings Fail to Smash Records

Though it was cable’s top show among young adults Thursday, the “Jersey Shore” season two reunion special failed to set any milestones in the ratings department.

The special garnered an average viewership of 3.338 million viewers with a 1.8 adults 18-49 rating. Among women 18-34, the show scored a 3.5, while its teens performance came in at a 2.3.

No one at MTV will complain about a broadcast that garners those kinds of demo figures, but the numbers were down quite significantly from last week’s season finale. While a reunion show would not be expected to draw as well as the taped reality component, the drop-off certainly suggests that it is the idea of putting the cast members together in a house–not merely the cast members themselves–that truly commands viewership.

Viewership for the season two reunion was actually less than that of the first reunion show, although the previous brodcast benefited by airing directly after the season one finale.

  1. The reunions are usually a snooze-fest. I still can’t wait for season 3 but until it comes back I’ll be watching My Big Fat Friggin Wedding Mondays on Vh1 to get my drama-filled Jersey fix!
